Course Overview

This course is designed to instruct students through lecture and practical exercise on the techniques and proper use of the Oleoresin Capsicum (OC, AKA “pepper spray”) Aerosol Projectors.

Note: The student should be able to get up and down from standing, kneeling, and prone positions, as well as move forward, backward, and laterally. While the course is not intended to be overly-physical, a student’s level of physical fitness can impact quality of experience.

• History of OC Use
• Understanding OC Chemical Composition, Capsaicinoids, and Pungency
• Aerosol Projector Systems and Variants
• Use of Force Considerations
• OC Deployment, Subject Care, Levels of Exposure, and Decontamination
• Patterns of Movement
• Draws, Spray Patterns, and Special Considerations
• De-escalation
• Students will be required to demonstrate the minimum acceptable performance standards for each skill presented, as well as basic knowledge of the material in order to attain certification.”
