This field-level certification program is designed to acquaint law enforcement/security industry participants with operational use of the ASP Tactical Baton, Tactical Restraints and/or Performance Flashlights.

This course is available only for law enforcement, military, security, and corrections personnel.

Course Overview

This field-level certification program is designed to acquaint participants with operational use of the ASP Tactical Baton, Tactical Restraints and/or Performance Flashlights. The training includes basic portation (carrying) and presentation (drawing) techniques as well as defensive application procedures. Certification acknowledges that the individual officer met a competency-based standard of knowledge and performance.

Note: The student should be able to get up and down from standing, kneeling, and prone positions, as well as move forward, backward, and laterally. While the course is not intended to be overly-physical, a student’s level of physical fitness can impact quality of experience.

Course Outline

The ASP Basic Certification (ABC) program is an integrated 8-hour Baton, 4-hour Restraint and 4-hour Light seminar which trains participants in the operational use of ASP tactical products. The ASP training program is based on modern, court defensible police standards for less lethal use of force.

ASP Basic Certification is a participatory seminar – participants must pass a written examination and a physical performance test.

Additional Course Information:

The integrated program provides portation (carrying) and presentation (drawing) procedures as well as baton striking, restraint application and lighting use techniques.
These tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced and readily maintained long after the program is completed. The ASP Tactical Baton is designed to be used as an impact weapon, not a come-along device. Techniques taught in the ASP program follow this standard. There are no complicated holds or complex moves. Because of this, the program avoids the training complexities which often plague other baton programs.

ASP handcuffing techniques are rapid and strong. Restraints are easily applied to subjects in a variety of positions.

ASP lighting procedures are designed for everyday use by street police officers.

ASP training incorporates drills which simulate the stress of street encounters. The program participant will have a basic understanding of the conditions in which the products may be used, justification for use and how to document these actions.
