Course Overview

This 4-hour course is for anyone looking to obtain licensing to conceal carry a handgun in the state of Texas.

Students who attend this course through DTAC are eligible to receive discounted first aid training!

Course Outline

We believe that individuals have the right to protect themselves and their families. However, we also believe that those rights come with a duty to be safe and responsible! While “Permitless Carry” is legal in the state of Texas, a responsible gun owner should always seek out additional training to educate themselves on what it means to responsibly carry a firearm in Texas.

Successful completion of this course is required to apply for a concealed carry license from the state of Texas.

The objective of this course is to educate participants on the responsibilities and laws applicable to handgun license holders.

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Laws that relate to weapons and the use of deadly force
  • Handgun use and safety
  • Non-violent dispute resolution
  • Proper storage practices to keep your family safe

In order to successfully complete the course, students are required to pass a 25 question written exam and 50 round live-fire firearms proficiency demonstration.

KEEP IN MIND – this course in not intended to teach marksmanship skills. Beginner shooters may have the opportunity to receive additional assistance from Instructors prior to participating in live-fire range events. Required Equipment

Safe and Positive Attitude – we list it first because it is the most important!

Note taking material

Firearm* – Revolver or Semi-Automatic

Magazines or Speed Loaders – minimum of 2 is recommended.

A minimum of 50 rounds of factory ammunition* appropriate for your weapon (NO RELOADS) – .22 caliber or higher.

Proper footwear (closed-toe shoes only)

Eye/Ear protection**

*All firearms and ammunition must be functional, well maintained and will be inspected by instructors and/or range staff prior to any live-fire range events.
